Cold in the house, cold at night, but nice and sunny and warm in the

Sounds perfect. See you when I get a passport ('bout 2018 - unless I
pissed off with the whole ID card shite enough to get one sans
biometrics.)

There was still one under my bed until a few years ago, but it got
junked in my last move. Apparently they're still making them, sort of:

I live in Central London now and do "web site stuff and Internet

Not much lurking to do though, is there? Nobody sez owt. But any half
decent newsreader will let you know when someone's posted. Perhaps
everyone else is using shite newsreaders?

To be honest, this ng was turning into "The Paul, Damian and Graham

Hmmm maybe its time to ditch Gravity for something a tad more modern.
Any recomandations for some thing that will allow you to stop any form
of HTML rendering? Including that bloody annoying "oh we'll just show
you the text in the html" that seems to be the minimum I can get
THunderbird down to? I want to see raw html if someone is dumb enough to
post it to a NG.

Hi Barry!

Random memory from past. I remember when Barry first rang me up in
late 1991 to tell me that S&S would like to employ me. There was a
loud bang in the background as he spoke, and he giggled. For some
reason I assumed this meant he was winding me up (I hadn't been very
lucky with previous job interviews) and that i wasn't really being
offered the job after all.

Turned out they were having it was a Christmas balloon popping in the
office.

Later when I started the job they told me I would be writing the
Windows version of the Anti-Virus Toolkit. I'd never written a Windows
program in my life, and this was Windows 3.0 remember.... pure terror.

Lots of fun memories from my time at S+S. I was telling someone just
last week about when we had "threats" from the "PLO" telling us not to
hold a staff party...

Yes I remember making the phonecall. We weren't very big in those days and
offering a job to a new programmer was something of an event.

Other random memories concerning Graham usually involve cheese, the words 'I
am lovely' printed large on A4 pinned above his desk and of course, going to
see Trish (Hodgson/Evans) do her Mrs Danvers performance with the
Berkhamstead am-drams.

Up to my ears in family stuff, writing code from home and grumbling about
how there's nothing interesting going on in UK development these days. I
always did aspire to the Iolo Davidson kind of lifestyle, though I still
haven't managed to move to an ex bishop's manor house in the Cotswolds.

Solly made - or rather Solly commissioned. They had two built for
some trade event where the whole Doctor Solomon's/Doctor Who thing
crashed together in some marketing person's dream.

Some time later (possibly NAI related but I can't remember now) the
powers that be decided to sell them off and I had one for the
convention group I help run (www.sfball.com).

We used it at a couple of events but it was never intended to be
taken apart and rebuilt, so each time it got more damaged; so it's
now "resting" in storage.

Bet that was more than you wanted to know! ;-)

Ahh yes! I was at that exhibition. There was also a remote control
K9, and a voice modulator (for dalek voices... they didn't let us have
actual daleks, and a man from the bbc turned up to check we weren't
disparaging the inhabitants of skaro).

the tardises and the rest of the stand at the show were designed by
Steve Davis and his team at Setout. Some pictures at

Oh I just put up with the spam. A little noise lets me know the connection
still works. Demon's filtering isn't that bad anyway. I just have to
delete maybe ten a day, which isn't bad for an e-mail address that's over
ten years old.

Allow me to enlighten you (cue lightning bolt, lightbulb switching
on over your head or whatever your favourite visual gag is...)
Blackadder goes forth (the WW1 series) - stick two pencils up your
nose (health & safety and anti-litigation advice - BLUNT end
upwards), put a pair of underpants on your head and go round saying
"wibble" all the time, and that makes you too sensible to be sent
"over the top".

I see from the dictionary that your usage has a different
definition - I didn't realise it was actually a legit word (at least
in a colloquial sense). I learn something new every day....
